Schools’ insurance switch delayed

BAR HARBOR — Administrators and support staff throughout the Mount Desert Island Regional School System (MDIRSS) will keep the same health insurance plan they currently have through the coming school year.

The MDIRSS board had voted June 21 to switch them to a different plan. The deductible would increase from $200 to $1,000, but the school system would create a health reimbursement account to cover the $800 difference.

That change did not affect the administrators and support staff at Conners Emerson School in Bar Harbor.

Last week the Bar Harbor School Committee voted to have the switch to the new insurance plan take place the following year.

To be consistent across the district, the MDIRSS board voted Monday for a one-year delay in the switch for all of the school system’s administrators and support staff.
