MOUNT DESERT — The annual Northeast Harbor Christmas Festival will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, with activities throughout the day.
A highlight, as usual, will be the arrival at the marina of Santa and Mrs. Claus aboard the Sunbeam at 4 p.m. Then the jolly old pair will settle onto the porch of Carter’s Real Estate to greet children and wish them Merry Christmas.
The sixth annual Frosty 5K at The Neighborhood House is the first event of the day. A kids’ fun run begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K race begins at 10. Advance registration is $10.

Other activities of the day include horse-drawn carriage rides, a holiday card-making workshop and the Festival of Trees at Mount Desert Nursery School.
Santa Claus is coming to town on Friday, Dec. 7 for the Village Holidays and Midnight Madness Sale.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Village Green, where guests can help themselves to free hot cocoa and cookies, while carolers sing.
At 5 p.m., Santa makes his special appearance, arriving by fire truck to light the town Christmas tree, and read “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head, he’ll then make his way to the YMCA, where he’ll listen to children’s wish lists and be available for photos.
Also at the YMCA, youngsters can enjoy craft activities and pick out a free book as part of the Islander’s Gift of Reading program.
The sales, 20 to 70 percent discounts, begin at 8 p.m. at many downtown businesses. The event is sponsored by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, the Bar Harbor Merchants Association, and Acadia Shops. It has been held annually since 2001.

Santa Claus is coming to town on the evening of Dec. 7, one of several holiday celebrations hosted by Harbor House Community Center.
Local craft makers will be selling their wares from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harbor House on Main Street.
On Friday, Dec. 7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. a Southwest Harbor fire truck will bring Santa to town to light the Christmas tree at the Village Green. Weather permitting, ol’ Saint Nick will move festivities to the Post Office parking lot where a bonfire will be lit.
Photos will Santa are scheduled from 5:45 – 7 p.m. at Harbor House. During that same time, the Common Good will be offering mulled cider, hot cocoa and music for folks waiting for a hayride. Hayrides around town are taking place from 6 – 7 p.m., weather permitting.
The following morning, Dec. 8 at Sips Restaurant, from 7 – 11 a.m., there will be a Breakfast for Santa. Customers who bring an unwrapped gift will get free eggs, toast and coffee, or $5 off breakfast from the menu.
Also on Saturday, Dec. 8 at St. John’s Church at 2 p.m. will be The Wicked Good Magic Hour.

A crepe breakfast is planned for Dec. 8 from 8–10 a.m. in the Tremont Consolidated School gymnasium.
Santa will be at the school passing out books during the breakfast. It is a benefit for the students who take French and travel to Quebec every other year.
During the breakfast, a book fair will also be going on in the gym.
