MOUNT DESERT — There’s going to be more to Northeast Harbor’s Christmas celebration this Saturday, Dec. 5, than in previous years. A lot more.
But as always, a highlight will be the appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus on the front porch of Carter’s Real Estate on Main Street, from 4:15-5:30 p.m., where they will greet children and listen to what they want for Christmas.
The day’s activities start at 10 a.m. with the Neighborhood House Frosty 5K race and continue through the showing of the family friendly movie, “Home Alone,” at Neighborhood House at 6:30 p.m.
In between, there will be a crafting workshop at the Northeast Harbor Library from 9 a.m. until noon and Santa’s Workshop at Neighborhood House from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Iron Slipper Farm will provide horse-drawn carriage rides around town from 3-6 p.m.
Kay and David Graves will offer wagon rides from Neighborhood House to the marina from 3:30-4:30 p.m. At the same time, there will be caroling at the marina and on Main Street.
This year, for the first time, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by boat, with the Maine Sea Coast Mission vessel, Sunbeam, scheduled to land at the marina at 4 p.m. Then the jolly old pair will settle onto the porch at Carter’s.
Neighborhood House will host a free community dinner from 5 p.m. until the movie starts at 6:30.
The Christmas celebration is a joint effort of the Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce and the town’s events committee.
“We really wanted to have something for everybody,” said Chamber President Lisa Parsons.
