Santa, sales set for Friday

BAR HARBOR — Old Saint Nick is scheduled to make his regular holiday stopover here Friday evening to usher in the annual Village Holidays and Midnight Madness sale. Also Friday, the Maine Sea Coast Mission will host a holiday open house at their historic Colket Center on West Street.

As in past years, Santa and Ms. Claus are set to arrive at the village green at 5 p.m. to light the town Christmas tree. From there, a horse-drawn carriage will take Santa and his crew to the MDI YMCA on Park Street, where children of all ages can enjoy a host of activities.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., the YMCA will hold a holiday party, complete with crafts, cookies and hot cocoa. Guests will be able ride on Santa’s sleigh, courtesy of Wild Iris Farm, weather permitting. The Bar Harbor Bed and Breakfast Association will supply sweet treats for the party and Hannaford will supply cookies for children to decorate. A host of children’s activities will be offered and Santa and Ms. Claus will be available for photos with the kids.

The Mission’s annual holiday party runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening includes refreshments, wine, music, and tours of the historic Colket Center on West Street. In lieu of admission, partygoers are encouraged to donate to the institution.

After the parties, the shopping is set to begin. From 8 p.m. to midnight, 30 downtown shops and restaurants will offer serious discounts and specials. A list of participating retailers and discounts can be found at

Village Holidays and the Midnight Madness sale are sponsored by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, MDI YMCA, Cape Air, Acadia Shops and Hannaford Supermarket.

Southwest Harbor’s Community Christmas is set for Friday, Dec. 13.
