Repairs close carriage road

ACADIA NAT’L PARK — A one-mile section of carriage road between Jordan Pond Gatehouse and Wildwood Stables will be closed from Aug. 1 to Sept. 29 for reconstruction of a stone retaining wall, a portion of which collapsed in 2015.

The collapse was caused by a lack of proper drainage that allowed storm water to weaken the wall’s underlying support. Fixing the problem will require rebuilding the entire 220-foot-long retaining wall and the carriage road that supports it.

The $400,000 project is funded by the National Park Service’s cyclic maintenance program.
