Quarry appeal is postponed

MOUNT DESERT — The Appeals Board’s public hearing on an appeal by Harold MacQuinn Inc. of an order to halt work at its granite quarry in the village of Hall Quarry, originally scheduled for Nov. 1, has been postponed. No new date has been set.

Code Enforcement Officer Kim Keene issued a stop-work order in early September after determining that extraction activities at the quarry were in violation of the town’s land use ordinance.

Meanwhile, MacQuinn is seeking Planning Board approval for a quarrying license.
