BAR HARBOR — Melinda Rice-Schoon will lead a workshop about writing press releases at Anchorspace Bar Harbor on Friday, Dec. 21 at 3:00 p.m.
“A well-written press release can promote your event or publicize a message at a relatively low cost, but getting it picked up is the key,” said Jane Holland, Anchorspace Community Manager.
The workshop will cover content, customization for different media outlets, and who to submit to, as well as a general overview of the benefits of earned media and how publicity today works.
Currently the Program Director at Jesup Memorial Library, Rice-Schoon joined the Jesup after a long career in journalism that included work as a newspaper reporter and editor, freelance writer and editor, and freelance marketing and media consultant. Those roles gave her experience in both writing and using press releases.
“It’s harder than ever to get noticed in today’s media landscape; you’ll leave this workshop with new tools and a new understanding of how to get your organization noticed,” she said.
The professional development workshops at Anchorspace Bar Harbor are offered monthly and focus on the skills and information that all individuals need to succeed through engaging, affordable, and local learning opportunities. The workshops are free for Anchorspace members and cost $25 per person to the general public. All participants receive access to the recorded course after the workshop for additional review.
There also is a networking ‘happy hour’ after the workshop.
