Pedestrian accident in Southwest Harbor

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A Bar Harbor man sustained a leg injury Wednesday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of Gott’s Construction.

Charles Richardson, 69, was walking in the lot just before 6 a.m. when he was hit by a 2005 GMC driven by Rodney Tozier, 76, also of Bar Harbor, according to police Chief Alan Brown.

It was snowing and the parking lot slick when Tozier pulled into the lot from Route 102. In addition, police said, his vision was obscured by a utility pole. Tozier braked but couldn’t avoid sliding into Richardson.

Richardson, who police said might have suffered a broken leg, was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor by the Southwest Harbor Tremont Ambulance Service.
