Park visitor info is shifted

ACADIA NAT’L PARK — Visitor information and park entrance passes will not be available at park headquarters on Eagle Lake Road from May 1-Oct. 31.

Those services will be consolidated at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.

Since 1980, the park has staffed a visitor information desk in one of the buildings at park headquarters. That has led to confusion and inconvenience for some visitors, park officials said in a press release.

“During the summer and fall seasons, some visitors go to park headquarters expecting to find the main visitor center, direct access to the carriage roads and connections to the Island Explorer bus system. Instead, visitors struggle to find parking and the information desk among the complex of buildings.”

“We have learned that trying to accommodate visitors among all the other activities at park headquarters is not serving them well,” Superintendent Kevin Schneider said.

The park will inform visitors about the change through its website, social media and road signs at park headquarters.
