ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — The unusually cold and snowy winter here has affected people’s moods, wildlife and even the operation of Acadia National Park, which announced recently that the opening of the Park Loop Road will be delayed.

According to park officials, the road would ordinarily open on April 15, but delays are expected “due to the heavy snow and slow melting.”

Crews are in the process of removing snow from the Park Loop Road and other access roads and will open sections of the roads as they are safe for travel. Park officials warned that “visitors walking or skiing on the motor road network should be aware that they may encounter park vehicles and heavy equipment at any time of day,” but not on weekends.
