BAR HARBOR — A pancake breakfast and silent auction will be held at Birch Bay Retirement Village Main Dining Room on Friday, Aug. 23 from 7-11 a.m.
The event is in memory of a the late Truth Young, who worked at Birch Bay. A donation of $5 per person will be encouraged. Silent auction items include restaurant gift cards, designer handbags, artwork, handcrafted furniture and more.
Employees say that proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Oncology Center at Mount Desert Island Hospital to assist with gas cards and travel expenses for cancer patients.
“As a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at BBV, Truth Young’s passion for service and helping others was inspirational and has inspired our staff to give back as well,” said Birch Bay Executive Director Peter Sullivan.
“Truth was a very dependable employee. I did not even realize she was struggling with cancer. She never let it show until the very end. She would always show up to work with a smile,” said former co-worker Sally Jordan-Sprague.
