New town committee

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Task Force on Aging is now a permanent committee of town government following town council action last week. Councilors voted to amend the municipal code to add the Age Friendly Committee.

This change was proposed after the Task Force on Aging presented results of a survey on aging in Bar Harbor to town councilors in August. The survey found housing and transportation were top concerns for residents over 50.

The task force was launched in May 2016 to “provide services and advocacy that enable older residents of Bar Harbor to live in the community for as long as possible,” according to a 2018 report published by the UMaine Center on Aging.
