MOUNT DESERT — There were going be two, but now there are three seats on the five-member Mount Desert school committee up for election at the May town meeting.
Marilyn Moore, who was elected two years ago to a three-year term, has announced her intention to step down. Her replacement will serve the remaining one year of her term.
Also up for election are the seats currently held by Laura Hendricks and Caroline Pryor. Those are for full three-year terms. So far, only Pryor has taken out nomination papers.
One seat on the board of selectmen is up for election this year. As of Wednesday, only the incumbent, Martha Dudman, had filed to run.
Incumbent Chuck Bucklin has taken out papers to run for reelection to the Mount Desert Island High School board of trustees.
March 20 is the deadline for filing nomination papers.
March 20 also is the filing deadline in Southwest Harbor, where board of selectmen chairman Dan Norwood has taken out nomination papers. His seat is the only one up for election this year, and as of Wednesday, he had no challengers.
Three people have taken out papers to run for two seats on the school committee. They are John Bench, Michael Sawyer and incumbent Susan Allen. Skip Strong, who is completing his 10th year on the school committee, is not seeking another term.
One of Southwest Harbor’s three seats on the high school trustees board is up for election this year. Neither incumbent Eric Clark nor anyone else has taken out nomination papers.
