Missing person found in Southwest Harbor

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A Litchfield woman was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital for evaluation Monday afternoon following a statewide search. Maine State Police had issued a Silver Alert when she failed to appear at a relative’s home in Bangor where she was expected Sunday.

Jacka Beckwith, 77, was reported seen near Ship Harbor around 3:50 p.m. Monday. Southwest Harbor and Tremont police and firefighters began a search, Tremont Fire Chief Keith Higgins said, and a firefighter found her in her red Subaru Legacy on Main Street.

Monday morning, Beckwith had been seen in Baileyville asking for directions to Bangor, according to reports. She reportedly has a medical condition and difficulty with memory, so she may have become disoriented.
