MARBLEHEAD, Mass. — The Mount Desert Island High School sailing team traveled to Marblehead last weekend to race in the Maine Invitational against Marblehead High School and George Stevens Academy.

MDI fielded three boats on Saturday, with crew Connor Ratcliff and Sofie Dowling in boat one, Alec Fisichella and Lucas Ingebritson in boat two and Olivia Stanley and Elise Craighead in boat three.

The Trojans sailed through 15-20 knot winds to defeat George Stevens but fell to the winning team from Marblehead.

On Sunday, the team raced in a fleet format with an A and B division. Ratcliff and Dowling took first place in the A division, and Fisichella and Ingebritson placed fifth in the B division, which qualifies the MDI team to compete in the O’Day qualifier on April 22 in Marblehead.

“I was proud of our kids as they represented MDI with maturity and responsibility,” said Head Coach John Macauley.

Next up, the team will participate in a spring racing clinic at Boothbay Harbor on April 18-20.
