MDI runners carry the torch for Special Olympics

BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island runners Judson Cake of the Bar Harbor Police Department and Gary Allen carried the torch for the first leg of the Maine Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Friday.

The pair carried the torch to the head of the island were it was passed off to other runners for the trip to the Special Olympics location in Orono.

The pair was escorted by other law enforcement personnel, including officers from the Bar Harbor, Ellsworth and Gouldsboro police departments, the Maine State Police and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. A Bar Harbor Fire Department ambulance escorted the runners, and they were paced by Bar Harbor Dispatcher Lori Bartlett on a bicycle.
