MDI falls in championship match to Medomak

BANGOR — Ten senior basketball players and three juniors hung up their jerseys for the season after Mount Desert Island High School narrowly lost a Class B Eastern Maine tournament final game to Medomak Valley High School on Saturday. The final score was 56-50.

Led by Adam Gray and Jon Phelps, MDI recovered from a three-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to lead by as many as seven points before Medomak rallied in fourth to regain a slight lead.

“It stings but we had a good run. I wouldn’t trade this team for anything” said Gray. “We have the best shooters, the best fans. We’re lucky and have nothing to hang our heads [about].”

MDI rallied in the final minute of the game to trail by just two points with a score of 52-50. However foul trouble forced the Trojans to watch their opponents make four out of four shots at the free throw line and move onto a state final match on Saturday.

“They just outplayed us in the third quarter,” said MDI head coach Justin Norwood.
