Mansion demolished

BAR HARBOR — The owners of an Eden Street estate hope to oversee construction of a new home there in the spring, after the aging buildings on the property were razed this fall.

John Darling and his wife Deborah bought the 2.11-acre estate at 149 Eden Street from the Pelletier family this fall.

According to town records, the former main house on the property was constructed in 1890 and comprised 9,592 square feet.

Darling is now retired, after working in his family’s auto dealerships in Ellsworth and Bangor.

The couple hopes to begin building later this year.
