Man sentenced in Acadia crash



BANGOR – A Southwest Harbor man was sentenced July 22 in U.S. District Court to six months in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to charges related to a motor vehicle accident in Acadia National Park.

Justin Bent, 29, also was ordered to serve three years probation upon his release and pay $2,520 in fines.

Bent was the driver of a vehicle that left the Seal Cove Road in May 2014 and crashed into trees. A passenger was seriously injured and taken by helicopter ambulance to a Bangor hospital for emergency surgery.

On Feb. 22, Bent pleaded guilty to charges of operating while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injury, operating a vehicle without due care and destroying trees and other natural resources.

According to the U.S Attorney’s Office, Bent’s blood alcohol level measured .14 the night of the accident. The legal limit is .08.
