Man dies after mountain road crash

ACADIA NAT’L PARK – A University of Maine student from Saudi Arabia died following a motorcycle crash on the Cadillac Mountain Summit Road here on Sunday afternoon.

According to park spokesman John Kelly, the accident occurred about 4:30 in the afternoon while the man was riding down from the summit. “Witnesses report he was operating at a high rate of speed and was passing other vehicles,” Kelly said. The victim apparently lost control of the motorcycle on a curve and crashed.

He was taken from the scene by Bar Harbor Ambulance and transferred to a Lifeflight helicopter ambulance in Bar Harbor. He later died at a Bangor hospital.

Additional details were unavailable Sunday night.

A Maine State Police accident reconstruction team was called in to do a forensic investigation of the accident’s circumstances. The crash and investigation resulted in the road to the top of the mountain being closed for several hours.
