BAR HARBOR — Curtis Simard, President and CEO of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, recently announced the 2018 grant recipients from the Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust managed by Bar Harbor Trust Services.
The Lynam Trust was established to support charitable, religious and educational organizations which are particularly beneficial to and advantageous for the people of Mount Desert Island.
Since 2009 the Lynam Trust has been making grants, ranging from $500 to $5,000, to non-profit organizations located on Mount Desert Island.
For 2018, grants were awarded to 32 organizations, representing close to $175,000 in total.
The organizations receiving grants in 2018 included: A Climate to Thrive, Acadia Community Association, Acadia Handbell Choir, Acadia Senior College, Acadia Wildlife, Bar Harbor Congregational Church, Bar Harbor Food Pantry, Camp Beech Cliff, Criterion Theatre, Hulls Cove Neighborhood Association, Island Connections, Island Housing Trust, Jesup Memorial Library, Kid’s Corner, Local Solutions, MDI Backpack Program, MDI Community Campfire Coalition, MDI Historical Society, MDI Hospital, Mount Desert Nursery School, Mount Desert Nursing Association, Mount Desert Summer Chorale, Neighborhood House, Northeast Harbor Library, Somesville Library Association, Southwest Harbor Public Library, Summer Festival of the Arts, The Jefferson Davis Grant Foundation, The Maine Granite Industry Historical Society, Town of Mount Desert Community Development Corp., The Wendell Gilley Museum of Bird Carving, Inc. and the YWCA of Mount Desert Island.
The annual grant application deadline is Sept. 18. Applications are reviewed by the Grants Committee each November. Grants are awarded and distributed by December 31 of the same calendar year. Applicants must have their primary administrative office located on MDI and serve the residents of the island. Organizations are encouraged to reapply every year, whether or not a grant was awarded to them in a prior year.
