Luminaria event to light the way

BAR HARBOR — The 15th annual Light the Way to a Cure Luminaria Evening, a candlelight event that celebrates cancer survivors and remembers those lost to the disease, will take place on the Village Green on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 7-9:30 p.m. Local musicians David and Peter Lindquist will provide live music.

When their friend Carol Dyer lost her battle with brain cancer in June 2001, the Bar Harbor YBs – a group of local women – decided to plan an event that would honor her memory and help meet the needs of other people facing a cancer diagnosis. Since then, it has raised over $85,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Luminaria bags may be purchased in advance for $10 each by downloading a form from or by picking up a form at local businesses. Bags also may be purchased the evening of the event. Mail your completed forms with a check payable to the American Cancer Society to P.O. Box 258, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.

The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 7.
