Lobsterman on fishing

BAR HARBOR — Dennis Meehan, a fisherman for 35 years, will share a day in the life of a lobsterman and answer questions at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.

He will bring a pair of lobsters, and each attendee can enter a raffle to win the lobsters at the end of the night.

Meehan, who fishes on the F/V Jane out of Seal Harbor, will talk about his daily routine and share stories about what he encounters on the sea. He also will touch on the Maine Lobsterman’s Association, which has worked to keep the lobster industry on the Maine coast sustainable for years to come. Meehan will talk about lobster traps – he makes his own – and will show you the difference between male and female lobsters.

This talk is part of the Cadillac Mountain Sports Speaker Series. The next talk in the series is on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. with Nicole Grohoski, who will talk about the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Call 288-4245 or [email protected]
