Livestrong going strong, supports cancer survivors

BAR HARBOR — Thanks to the hard work of the Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club, Jeff Miller, and many donors, The Mount Desert Island YMCA’s Livestrong at the MDI Y program for cancer survivors has raised over $5,000 this year.

Livestrong at the MDI Y is a 12-week small group program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health and wellbeing following a cancer diagnosis. The program provides a safe and supportive environment for survivors to regain their physical, emotional and spiritual strength. It is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that the program is about health, not disease.

Participants receive a free three-month family membership, group personal training and personal attention from trained staff members and past participants. By working together with a community of other survivors, participants gain an understanding that they are not alone in what they are going though.

A new session begins Sept. 7. Applications are being accepted now.
