SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Home-schooled student Kristian Gerrish, 11, has been accepted to attend the Summer Institute for the Gifted at the University of Miami.

He has set up an online fundraising page to help raise the $5,000 he’ll need to attend the program. Donations also may be sent to Kristian Gerrish c/o Bethani Gerrish, 285 Seawall Road, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.

MacDonald on UVM dean’s list

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Elizabeth MacDonald of Mount Desert has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at the University of Vermont.

MacDonald, a member of the class of 2021, is majoring in business administration in the Grossman School of Business.

To be named to the dean’s list, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Dominy on URI dean’s list

KINGSTON, R.I. —Jessica R. Dominy of Bar Harbor was named to the University of Rhode Island dean’s list for spring 2018.

To be included on the dean’s list, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

LaValle, Soucek graduate

WATERVILLE — Nellie S. LaValle and Lucy E. Soucek graduated from Colby College in a ceremony on May 27. Sen. Susan Collins told the graduates to choose respect for civil discourse over divisiveness.

Lavalle attended Mount Desert Island High School and is the daughter of David LaValle of Bar Harbor and Heather Halliday of Hulls Cove.

Soucek ,who majored in religious studies and theater and dance, attended Mount Desert Island High School and is the daughter of Anne Rhode of Bar Harbor and Leo Soucek of Topsham.

Mooers graduates

DURHAM, N.H. — Colin Mooers of Mount Desert graduated from the University of New Hampshire in May.

Mooers earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management

Erickson graduates

BRUNSWICK — Olivia Ellen Erickson of Bar Harbor graduated from Bowdoin College on May 26.

She graduated cum laude with a major in government and legal studies and a minor in sociology.

Liu graduates

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Summitt Liu of Bar Harbor received a bachelor’s degree at the Colgate University commencement ceremony on May 20.

Liu majored in environmental biology and philosophy, and graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School. Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, delivered the keynote address.
