Geary earns scholarship

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Maeve Geary of Southwest Harbor, a senior at Michigan State University, was recently awarded a Scholarship of Excellence for the 2018-2019 academic year from the Statler Foundation.

Geary was one of 14 students recognized nationally and was honored at a reception and luncheon in Buffalo in September.

She is studying hospitality business and has been named to the Dean’s List every semester. The scholarship provides $20,000 to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books. Geary is a member of the Mount Desert Island High School Class of 2015. She is the daughter of Jim Geary and Louise Soucy.


Anderson named Bowdoin Scholar

BRUNSWICK — David Anderson of Bar Harbor, a member of the Bowdoin College Class of 2019, has been named a Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholar.

The college held its annual Sarah and James Bowdoin Day ceremony Friday, Oct. 19 “to honor those undergraduates who distinguish themselves with excellence in scholarship,” an announcement from the college said.

Those students who are designated Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholars are in the top (highest GPA) 20 percent of each class for the previous academic year.

Anderson is pursuing a major in biology and a minor in mathematics.
