Islander plans appreciation promotions

BAR HARBOR — Half-price subscriptions, a set of free collector scenic postcards, other giveaways, and free coffee and doughnuts during the annual Early Bird Pajama Sale are some of the ways the Islander will show its appreciation to its loyal readers and customers later this month.

“We are honored by our recent first-place award for general excellence from the Maine Press Association and our second-place “Newspaper of Distinction” honor for Newspaper of the Year from the New England Newspaper and Press Association earlier this fall,” Islander Editor Earl Brechlin said. “We could not do it without the support of our thousands of readers and our dedicated advertisers,” he added.

From 6-9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, all subscriptions purchased at the Islander office at 310 Main St. in Bar Harbor will be half price. That offer is extended to online purchases made during that same period. Orders can be phoned in as well.

Those subscriptions include the weekly paper, unlimited 24/7 access to breaking news, videos, photo galleries and more at www.mdislander.com, as well unfettered world-wide access to the weekly digital edition. That edition, which includes a searchable database going back to 2009, also allows readers to clip and save items and download full page pdfs of the paper.

The new digital issue is posted each week as soon as the presses are rolling.

“Now is the perfect time for folks to purchase gift subscriptions for everyone on their holiday list so they can stay in touch with everything happening in the Mount Desert Island-Acadia area,” said Islander Office Manager Shayla White.

The public is invited to stop by the Islander office during the PJ Sale hours to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, fresh doughnuts and visit with Editor Earl Brechlin and other staff members. Along with the postcards featuring images captured by the paper’s photographers, promotional mini-carabiners also will be available.
