Invasive plant paddle is set

MOUNT DESERT — An invasive plant patrol paddle hosted by the Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary and Acadia National Park will depart from the sanctuary, 57 Pretty Marsh Road, on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. and last till noon.

Maine’s lakes, rivers and streams are increasingly threatened by nonnative invasive plants. Once established in a lake, stream or pond, early detection of an invasive aquatic plant provides the best hope of eradicating the invader. Trained volunteers play an extremely important role in this effort.

Paddlers of all ages are welcome to attend and must preregister with the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program at or 783-7733. Contact Billy Helprin at 460-9390 for requirements, a list of what you should bring and more information.
