- SHINY AND NEW … A new E-ONE Typhoon ladder truck arrived at the Bar Harbor Fire Department this week. Fire Chief Matt Bartlett said the new truck is equipped for aerial rescue, along with other rescue duties. The $695,000 truck will not be used on calls for a couple of weeks, he said, but members of the department are participating in training on how to operate and drive it. - OLDIES BUT GOODIES … The Bar Harbor High School football team in 1947. The last two games of that season were cancelled due the Great Fire of ’47. The Bar Harbor High School Class of 1968, the last class to graduate from the school before it closed, is planning a reunion Aug. 19 at noon at the Bar Harbor Club. A slide show of life and events at the school from 1908 through 1968 is being prepared by Cathy James and Dick Cough. Reservations are requested by Aug. 1. - GROOVES ON WAX … Batik works by Gloria Avner, who for more than 30 years was a partner in Aquarius Antiques in Town Hill, will be on display at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor from July 6 through Aug. 13. “Instead of using dyes on fabric,” Avner said, “I use ink, wax and watercolor on delicate rice paper. There is mystery in the fact that the process is never totally controllable.” A reception with Avner is set for Saturday, July 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served. - STAND-UP STARS … The Maine Comedy All-stars are set to perform at The Criterion Theatre on Saturday, July 21, at 8 p.m. The show will be hosted by Connor McGrath. Colby Bradshaw, who won the 2017 Couch Comedy Competition, beating out 60 other comedians, will open. Denis Fogg will keep the laughs coming with his rapid-fire wittiness and unique take on Maine humor. Headlining the night is Ian Stuart, founder of the Portland Maine Comedy Festival.
