- FIREHOUSE CHOWDER … A chowder cooked up by members of the Bar Harbor Fire Department won the people’s choice award in Friday’s Chowder Chowdown competition at Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor. Pictured, from left, are Amy Roebuck of Island Connections, Capt. Jai Higgins of the BHFD and Island Connections Executive Director Doreen Willett. Peekytoe Provisions repeated last year’s win in the professional category, and a team from College of the Atlantic took the prize in the vegan category with its “Chowder of the Atlantic.” The event raised nearly $3,000 for Island Connections, which provides free transportation for elderly and disabled people for medical appointments, grocery shopping, banking, exercise classes and other activities.
