IHT names new staff

MOUNT DESERT — Alison Beane has been named the new executive director of the Island Housing Trust, succeeding Chris Spruce. Beane took over as executive director in mid June, and in July, she hired Clara Baker as the new program associate for the organization.

Beane is a Maine native who joined IHT’s staff as a program associate in 2014. Earlier this year, she was promoted to associate director and began working with Spruce to transition to the executive director’s position.

Baker also grew up in Maine and has lived on Mount Desert Island for 17 years. For the last 10, she served as library director at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library in Bernard.

The change in executive leadership and staff is occurring simultaneously with a change in board leadership at IHT. Joanne Harris recently ended her three-year tenure as board chair, and board Vice President and former state Rep. Ted Koffman has assumed the role of board president.

Harris, who will remain on the board, said the transition from Spruce to Beane had been in progress for several months.
