Historic or just old school?

MOUNT DESERT — The Sound School House on Route 198 in Mount Desert is being considered by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The school house, built in 1892, was decommissioned as a school 40 years later and became the community center for the village of Sound. The Mount Desert Island Historical Society acquired the building in 1999 and uses it for educational programs and exhibits
