TRENTON — The Hinckley Co. announced on Tuesday that it has chosen Peter O’Connell to be the company’s new president and chief executive officer. He will join the company Sept. 1 and will be based in Portsmouth, R.I.
The announcement comes some nine months after the death of Jim McManus, who filled those roles at Hinckley for more than eight years until last November, when he succumbed to cancer.
O’Connell and his family currently live in Madison, Conn., but will be relocating to Rhode Island. He is an experienced and avid boater and also the proud owner of a Hinckley Picnic Boat, Retriever.
“He embodies exactly what we sought for this important role,” company Chairman David Howe said in an announcement of the hiring. “His experience as a Hinckley buyer and service customer provide useful insights and perspectives.”
In the marine industry, O’Connell has served as CEO of Navtec and Lewmar. Most recently, he served as CEO of Datacom Systems, a privately held technology company.
