High school budget adopted

BAR HARBOR — An $11.3-million budget for Mount Desert Island High School for 2019-2020 was adopted by the high school board Monday night. Registered voters in the four MDI towns will have an opportunity to vote on the budget at the high school’s annual budget meeting April 3.

The budget is $453,295 higher than the budget for the current year, an increase of 4.24 percent. But because of a $413,095 increase in carryover funds and other revenue factors, the overall assessment to the four MDI towns will go down 0.58 percent. However, taxpayers in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert will see slight increases.

Raises for school personnel, particularly teachers, account for about three-quarters of the total increase in anticipated spending.
