ARLINGTON, Va. — A preliminary agenda has been announced for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission winter meeting, set for Feb. 5-7. Public comments on issues on the agenda received three weeks prior to the start of the meeting will be included in the briefing materials.
The herring management board, which has been in the spotlight this year as the price of the fish used as lobster bait rose dramatically, meets the morning of Feb. 5. An advisory panel has been discussing how to allow greater flexibility to set annual quota specifications in Area 1A. They will report to the board and specifications for 2019 are scheduled to be set.
The lobster management board meets Tuesday afternoon. That agenda includes a report from the Right Whale Working Group on interactions between lobster gear and the endangered whales. Another working group on Lobster Enforcement Vessels will also share their work.
Hotel reservations for the meeting at The Westin Crystal City must be made by Jan. 7.
