Mount Desert Island Hospital is the first hospital in the nation to receive the Diagnostic Imaging Centers of Excellence (DICOE) recognition from the American College of Radiology.
The award is formal recognition for meeting a stringent set of standards in every aspect of medical imaging.
“There is a great deal of satisfaction in being recognized with the DICOE award because it confirms our dedication and success in protecting the health of our rural, island-based population,” said Dr. John Benson, medical director of medical imaging at MDI Hospital. “Our patients know, and this honor confirms, that they will receive the best patient-centered diagnostic care when they come through our doors.”
The award was presented to Benson at the American College of Radiology’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
In order to receive the DICOE distinction, facilities must be accredited by the American College of Radiology in all modalities or types of imaging they provide and in which the college offers an accreditation program.
MDI Hospital offers complete medical imaging services including MRI, CT, breast imaging, ultrasound, X-ray and molecular imaging.
