Hazardous, universal waste day



BAR HARBOR — Household hazardous waste and universal waste will be collected this Saturday, Sept. 24, at Mount Desert Island High School.

Truckloads of waste from Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro and Swans Island will be accepted from 9-10 a.m. Residents of MDI and other area towns may drop off waste from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The list of hazardous waste that will be accepted includes oil-based paint, brake and transmission fluid, oven and drain cleaners, herbicides and pesticides. Universal waste includes TVs, computer monitors and printers. Universal waste will not be accepted from residents of Bar Harbor, which has a collection site at its recycling facility.

Preregistration forms for Saturday’s waste collection are available at area town offices.
