Hays to lead ranked-choice voting workshops at SWH, Bass Harbor

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Mike Hays will lead a mock ranked-choice ballot election and vote-counting exercise at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Saturday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. and at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library on Saturday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m.

The exercises should make it clear to participants how ranked-choice voting works, how ballots will be counted, and how a final winner will be selected.

Hays, former board chair of the Southwest Harbor Public Library, current board member and treasurer of the Bass Harbor Memorial Library, is a longtime supporter of ranked-choice voting. The goal, said Hays, is “to demystify the confusion around RCV and show how the process actually increases citizen choice and should lead to a less partisan government.”

The workshop will be very interactive and will not last more than an hour. Attendees should be prepared to participate and to ask questions.

Call the library at 244-7065.
