BAR HARBOR — The Smiles for Seniors project aiming to build a walkway, garden and sitting area at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center is holding more fundraisers this month to push nearer to its $15,000 goal.
Ginny Norwood of Sullivan is spearheading the project, which is supported by, but not an initiative of, the company that owns the facility. After three events in May and some private donations, the initiative has raised $6,000, Norwood said.
Another yard sale is planned for Saturday, June 16, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Somesville fire station. A baked bean supper is set for June 23 at the Tremont Congregational Church.
Organizers hope work on the walkway will begin in July or August. An account for the project is open at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust for donations.
