Gardening for kids

MOUNT DESERT — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Maine Coast Heritage Trust are offering the Kids Can Grow youth gardening program for kids age seven to 12 who live on Mount Desert Island or in surrounding towns.

Participants will attend a series of five hands-on gardening classes from May through September at Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Stewardship Barn in Somesville. Kids will be partnered with a UMaine Extension Master Gardener Volunteer as a mentor, also receive seeds, plants and other materials to build a raised garden bed at home.

The program fee is $25 per child, and participants must register by April 25. Contact Sue Baez at 667-8212 or [email protected]
