BAR HARBOR — A comprehensive class called “The Fundamentals of Lyme Disease” with Emily Bracale will be offered by The Whole Health Center on Friday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bracale is the author of “In the Lyme-light: Portraits of Illness and Healing” and is a leading advocate for understanding Lyme disease in the state of Maine. This understanding is essential, Bracale said, because according to CDC rate estimates, the likelihood of contracting Lyme at some time in one’s life is over 50 percent for Mainers.
The intensive tutorial is designed for health professionals, but is open to the general public. It will include slide shows, discussions and information packets that cover a wealth of information distilled from Bracale’s eight years of study, attending and speaking at Lyme conferences, providing supportive counseling to the ill and networking with patients and professionals in the field.
This course will cover issues of diagnosis, the methods of treatment and support used by the most Lyme-literate professionals and insights about the healing journey from patients’ perspectives. The course will be repeated on Saturday, Aug. 20. Contact The Whole Health Center at 288-4128 or [email protected].
