MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — Free holiday meals are planned next weekend, thanks to a partnership between the Bar Harbor Food Pantry and First Advisors, the wealth management division of First National Bank.
Common Good in Southwest Harbor will provide a free holiday brunch for the community on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Open Table MDI will serve up a special holiday meal on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 4-7 p.m.
Open Table MDI and Common Good will each receive $500 sponsorship from First Advisors toward hosting a holiday meal.
Fifteen percent of Hancock County residents are food insecure and the BHFP serves roughly 1,000 individuals.
“Since we don’t have the space to cook and serve a meal, and there are two great nonprofits that do, I thought creating a space for the community to come together over a good hot meal, was the best way to spread some holiday cheer and feed those that are hungry.” says Jennifer Jones, director of the BHFP.
“It’s great to bring the entire community together through this partnership” says Steve Parady EVP and senior trust officer from First Advisors. “First Advisors takes ending hunger seriously and approached the pantry to see what could be done to ensure community members don’t go hungry this holiday season.”
Common Good provides a free weekly lunch of soup every Monday during the winter months and delivers soup to those who are homebound. During the summer you can enjoy amazing popovers. Open Table MDI has been serving up weekly community meals for just about year. It has served over 5,000 meals since opening its doors in February 2018.
