ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation offers 576 scholarships that support students pursuing music, journalism, teaching, horticulture, technology, the arts and other fields. They are available for students who attend secondary, postsecondary and graduate schools, as well as nontraditional programs.
In 2017, MaineCF awarded more than $3.2 million in scholarships to more than 1,500 Maine students attending schools in the state, across the country and around the world.
Adult learners can benefit from 16 scholarship funds that help them navigate the road back to school. About 200,000 Mainers who started college never completed their degrees; providing access to education for these adults is a MaineCF strategic priority. The community foundation is a member of the MaineSpark coalition, an initiative focused on a common goal: By 2025, 60 percent of Mainers will be credentialed and positioned for success.
A complete listing of scholarships available for the upcoming school year is now online at www.mainecf.org.
MaineCF’s scholarship funds are established for a variety of reasons, from honoring a family member to “giving back.” To establish a scholarship fund at the community foundation, call Liz Fickett, scholarship funds manager, at 877-700-6800, ext. 2015.
Headquartered in Ellsworth, with additional offices in Portland, Dover-Foxcroft and Mars Hill, the Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to improve the quality of life for all Maine people. Visit www.mainecf.org.
