BAR HARBOR — The fifth annual Hancock County Food Drive is underway and will last till the end of March. Last year, almost 14,000 pounds of food was collected. Organizers are hoping to top that this time.
One in four children in Maine goes to bed hungry, and thousands of our seniors are food insecure. They have to go without meals to buy medication, fuel or other basic needs. This county-wide event is a way to restock food pantry shelves at a time of year when donations are down and the need increases.
On the island, Cadillac Mountain Sports will accept financial donations. Food donations can be dropped off at these local collection sites: A&B Naturals, Cadillac Mountain Sports, Conners Emerson School, The First of Southwest Harbor, The Jackson Lab, The Knowles Company, MDI YMCA, The Neighborhood House, Northeast Harbor Library, Paradis True Value, Sherman’s Books, Southwest Harbor Public Library, Town Hill Market, Tremont Consolidated School and the YWCA of MDI.
