Fire deputy to speak at national conference

TRENTON — Steve Heckman, deputy chief of the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, has been invited to speak at an educational session for the Fire Department Instructors Conference International to be held April 8-13 in Indianapolis.

It is billed as the largest fire and emergency services conference in North America.

The title of Heckman’s presentation will be “Fire Alarm Systems: Simplified Approach to Understanding Operation, Limitations, Industry Terminology and Those Unwanted Alarms.”

Heckman has more than 25 years of experience in commercial and industrial fire protection. He specializes in the design, installation and maintenance of alarm systems.

A member of the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department for the past 12 years, he also is an instructor for the Hancock County Fire Academy, the Maine Fire Service Institute and the Eastern Maine Community College Fire Science Technology Program.
