Electric car charging station

TREMONT — Selectmen unanimously approved installing an electric car charging station in the lot next to the Tremont Consolidated School.

As part of the solar array agreement with Sundog Solar, the company offered to install an electric car charging station at no cost.

Selectman Mike Mansolilli asked if the town could charge for use. Town Manager Chris Saunders explained a machine that accepts payment is an additional $500 a year charge to the town.

After Chairman Kevin Buck said the cost of the charge to cars would be absorbed by the solar array, selectmen agreed the $500 annual fee didn’t make sense.

“Why don’t we try it,” said Selectman Jamie Thurlow about installing the station. “We can see how much it’s used.”

Buck said the lot next to the school on Tremont Road was a good place to install it because it is an Island Explorer stop.
