BAR HARBOR — Conners Emerson School Assistant Principal Mike Zboray is saying goodbye to Bar Harbor and will take the helm as principal of Trenton Elementary School. Meanwhile, retirement of several long-term Bar Harbor teachers has spurred a bit of a faculty shuffle in the lower grades and the search for some new hires.
Zboray, or, Mr. Z., as he is known, said that he will dearly miss the students, staff and faculty in Bar Harbor, and that “the support that this town provides its students is just amazing.”
The opportunity to lead his own school is something that Zboray is really looking forward to, he said. He will replace Dianne Waters as Trenton principal on July 1.
Conners Emerson will see several long-time teachers retire this year. Kindergarten teacher Roxie Brechlin, first grade teacher Toni McKay, third grade teacher Carol Chappel and fourth grade teacher Sue Hersey will not return in September.
Kindergarten teacher Caroline Fournier will move to third grade. Reading recovery specialist Debbie Mountford and third grade teacher Amber Pickers will move to kindergarten, where they join continuing kindergarten teacher Amanda Dyer.
In the first grade, McKay will not be replaced, leaving just two teachers — MaryAnne Young and Karen Barter.
In third grade, Fournier will replace Pickers and the school will hire someone new for Chappel’s position. The school also is interviewing for a new teacher to take Hersey’s place in fourth grade.
Other hires the school is looking to make are an assistant principal to replace Zboray, and a reading recovery specialist to replace Mountford. Temporary physical education teacher Brian O’Connell has been promoted to that position on a permanent basis.
