School savings

BAR HARBOR — School health insurance costs coming in under budget resulted in another drop in the proposed town budget for Fiscal Year 2017.

The estimated tax rate increase is now either 1.3 or 1.6 percent depending on which of the two versions of the budget is approved. The impact of the increase on a median-valued home worth $296,800 is $50-60 for the year.

The two versions persist because the Town Council and Warrant Committee disagreed about including $50,000 towards a future engineering study of a broadband network. The council budget includes those funds. The Warrant Committee budget does not.

The Warrant Committee met Friday to approve the school health insurance adjustment.
