SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Selectmen voted 5-0 Tuesday to recommend passage of the $3.5 million budget for the Pemetic Elementary School on the warrant for the May 2 open town meeting.
In making the decision, selectmen supported the recommendations of the town’s School Committee regarding the Pemetic budget.
The Warrant Committee is recommending that the budget be cut by about $182,000.
The decision followed a discussion in which Selectman Dan Norwood, citing the specific knowledge needed to fully understand what is required and needed by the school, questioned whether the board was qualified to make a recommendation at all.
The vote followed the urging of School Committee member Ingrid Wilbur Kachmar, who said the committee would like selectmen’s support for their recommendation.
