BAR HARBOR — Hundreds of area children will take to the roadways in bright yellow school buses next week as the Mount Desert Island Regional School System opens its doors for a new year.
The first day of school for nearly all students is Tuesday, Sept. 3. Mount Desert Island High School (MDIHS) freshmen begin their school year on Friday, Aug. 30 with an orientation program from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Nearly three-dozen new faculty and administrators have been hired this year, MDIRSS superintendent Howard Colter said, as baby boomers and other long-timers continue to retire.
